GCWW Temporary Water Meter Request Form
If you wish to use a meter on a fire hydrant for temporary water, call 513-591-7825 or email TemporaryUsePermit@gcww.cincinnati-oh.gov at least three days ahead of the date you wish to pick up the meter.
Please have the following information available:
- Reason for the need for temporary water (construction, demolition, etc.)
- There is a limited number of meters available:
- During peak season (Spring/Summer), it is recommended that you call sooner than the two days stated above.
- Meters are rented out on a first-come, first-served basis.
- If all meters are rented out, you will be put on a waiting list.
- There is a limited number of meters available:
- Location of the hydrant you wish to use.
- Once it is determined the request is viable and is within GCWW’s Laws, Ordinances, Rules and Regulations, you must submit the following documentation to GCWW:
- An original Temporary Water Usage Bond or Cashier’s Check
- The bond must be $2,000 per meter/limit 10 meters.
- The Bond should contain original signatures and have a raised surety’s seal/notary stamp
- Must be valid for the current calendar year (2026).
- These forms are available online at Temporary Water Bond Application.
- For jobs which are Three Days or less, a certified or cashier’s check or money order for $2,000 will be accepted in place of the bond (payable to GCWW)

- Please upload a copy of your cashier’s check with your application and bring the original when picking up the meter to ensure a smooth and timely process.
- Cashier's checks must be dated within 15 days of the temporary water request to be accepted.
- The check will be held and returned upon meter return.

- Fire Department Permit/Approval Form from the appropriate jurisdiction which includes the location of the hydrant(s) to be used and the duration of use.
- When you call/email GCWW to request a meter, you will be provided with the jurisdiction and/or phone # of the fire dept that is responsible for hydrant you wish to use.
- These forms are provided by the appropriate fire department NOT by GCWW.

COSTS/CHARGES/FEES: 2026
- The following fees will apply for any temporary water usage:
- Fire Dept Permit Fee: $12.90 for 1 day up to 3 months for each hydrant used.
- Please Note: Cost can vary based upon other variables. Please see the fire department in jurisdiction in which you are seeking fire permit for additional information.
- Water Usage Fee: $4.34 per CCF (1 CCF = 100 cubic feet = 748 gallons)
- Meter Rental Fee: $16.00 per week (minimum charge) or $49.00 per month
- If there is any part of a temporary water meter assembly or accessory such as:
- Wrench, Spanner, Inlet Adapter or Outlet Adapter (any other accessories) is lost, stolen, damaged or not returned for any reason, the Customer is responsible for the replacement cost.
- Should the entire meter not be returned, the company will be charged for the entire assembly, as well as rental fee and 50 CCF of water
- Fire Dept Permit Fee: $12.90 for 1 day up to 3 months for each hydrant used.
Customers must return the meter on or before the permit expiration date.
If additional time is needed or you wish to change the location, you must email TemporaryUsePermit@gcww.cincinnati-oh.gov or call 513-591-7825 to request a renewal or update. Customers are responsible for ensuring that the meter and all accessories remain in good condition and are not lost, stolen, or damaged. Each meter must be returned in the same condition as when issued.
Important:
Meters and hydrants may not be used when temperatures are below 32°F.
