Brownfield Revitalization Funding

The City of Cincinnati has been awarded funding for various brownfield revitalization projects around the city. 

Ohio DOD Brownfield Remediation Program Funding

The Ohio DoD Brownfield Remediation Program is funded with $200 million for Fiscal Years (FY) 2026-2027. For FY 2026, $88 million will be available, with $1 million reserved for each county. FY27, approximately $109 million is expected to be available for eligible projects. The program funds both brownfield assessment and brownfield remediation/clean-up projects. 

FY26 Applications open on November 12, 2025 and close on December 5, 2025. 

Applications will be reviewed and scored on a merit-based selection process that takes the following criteria into consideration:

  1. Economic merit of the project to the county, surrounding counties, and state.
  2. Ensuring that projects are awarded in different regions of the state.
  3. Readiness of the project to begin upon notification of award.
  4. Local support of the proposed project.

Ohio DOD Brownfield Remediation Program Funding 2024

Ohio Department of Development (Ohio DoD): This program opened for applications in December 2023 and was designed to provide grants for the environmental assessment and remediation of brownfield sites across Ohio to clean up the sites and prepare them for future economic development. A total of $350 million was provided for funding through the program. Grant awards were announced on August 9, 2024, September 20, 2024, October 15, 2024, November 4, 2024, November 19, 2024, and December 4, 2024Hamilton County was awarded $31,867,492 for 18 projects within the City of Cincinnati.

Ohio DOD Brownfield Remediation Program Funding 2022

Ohio Department of Development (Ohio DoD): This program opened for applications in 2022 and was designed to provide grants for the environmental assessment and remediation of brownfield sites across Ohio to clean up the sites and prepare them for future economic development. A total of $350 million was provided for funding through the program. Grant awards were announced on April 26, 2022, June 17, 2022, and December 16, 2022 totaling nearly $350 million to fund 313 projects in 83 counties. Hamilton County was awarded $25,032,757 with $15,996,493 awarded to ten projects within the City of Cincinnati.
