GCWW Victim Of Telephone Scam
Water Works Cautions Customers To Beware
To help protect residents and business owners, we are providing this alert of a potential telephone scam that is taking place throughout the Greater Cincinnati service area. We have notified the local authorities.
Greater Cincinnati Water Works was first notified of the potential scam by a resident who indicated scammer is potentially contacting GCWW customers threatening to disconnect their water service for non-payment of their delinquent water bill. The customer is instructed to proceed to a local convenience store to purchase a prepaid credit card to make the payment by calling a 800 or 888 telephone number.
Rest assured GCWW never asks or requires customers who have delinquent accounts to purchase a prepaid card to avoid water service disconnection. Customers can make payments online, by telephone, by automatic bank draft, by mail or in person. In addition, it is GCWW’s current practice to provide multiple notifications over the course of several weeks to owners with delinquent accounts prior to water service disconnection. If owners are uncertain of the status of their water account, they can contact GCWW’s Customer Contact Center at 513-591-7700.
Occasionally, Cincinnati Water Works may call a customer to discuss their account. If we do, we will provide the customer with information that only the customer and Cincinnati Water Works would know in order to validate that our call is legitimate.
If you think you have been a victim of the telephone scam, please contact your local police department immediately.
For more information, residents and business owners can contact GCWW’s Customer Contact Center at 513-591-7700.
