Corridor Improvement Projects

Corridor projects focus on key streets where safety concerns occur across multiple blocks or intersections. By looking at the full corridor, the City can implement a coordinated set of improvements—addressing patterns in crashes, speeds, and travel behavior. This approach supports more cohesive, long-term solutions that improve how the entire street works from end to end.

These projects may include narrowing or reducing travel lanes, shifting or realigning the roadway, improving pedestrian crossings, widening sidewalks, updating signals and signage, adding bicycle facilities, and installing traffic calming features—all working together to improve safety and comfort for people driving, walking, biking, and using transit.

Funding for corridor improvement projects primarily comes from external grants. DOTE regularly applies for local, state, and federal funding. Because resources are limited and competitive, not all locations can be addressed at once—but improvements continue to advance as funding becomes available.
