The City of Cincinnati is sharing available resources ahead of dangerously warm temperatures forecasted for our area beginning this Wednesday. The City has several locations to cool off from the heat and reminds residents to remain vigilant during potentially dangerous weather conditions.
Cooling Centers
Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC) facilities remain open to the public to escape the heat and cool off regardless of membership status. All recreation centers operate as Cooling Centers for the public, free of cost, during regular operating hours. Centers provide a cool place to sit and relax indoors with water for guests.
For more information on center hours and locations, visit Find a Facility.
CRC spraygrounds are free and open to the public 10 AM to 9 PM every day.
CRC pools are affordable places to swim, play, and stay cool, and five pools (Bond Hill, Filson, Hanna, Hirsch, Millvale) are free for youth under the age of 18. Find pool locations and hours here.
Trash and Recycling Collection Adjustments
Due to the extreme temperatures this week, all trash collection operations will stop at 1 p.m. daily. Any trash not collected on your designated day should be left on the curb for collection the next day.

Tips for Landlords and Homeowners
Landlords and property owners are encouraged to take steps now to ensure their buildings stay safe and comfortable for tenants.
Proper seasonal maintenance is key to ensuring your air conditioning systems operate efficiently, especially when demand is at its peak. One of the simplest ways to prevent expensive repairs is to change your air filters monthly (or as needed).
What You Can Do Today:
If your property has central air, here are a few things to check and do immediately:
-
Open the Registers: Ensure vents are open and unobstructed to allow cool air to circulate.
-
Adjust the Ductwork: Check that duct dampers are set for summer use and allow maximum airflow. Do this seasonally.
-
Inspect Humidifiers: If your HVAC system has a built-in humidifier, make sure it’s functioning properly.
-
Close the Windows: Ensure that all exterior windows are shut to maintain indoor temperatures. Landlords should clearly communicate this to tenants.
-
Check on Your Tenants: Especially elderly or vulnerable individuals who may be more affected by extreme heat. Be sure to share information about the City of Cincinnati’s cooling centers
-
Adjust the Thermostat Gradually: Avoid sudden, drastic changes. Lower the temperature one degree at a time to avoid overworking the system.
-
Clear the Outdoor Condenser Unit: Make sure the unit is free from overgrown grass, debris, or anything that blocks airflow. A quick pressure wash can help remove built-up dirt.
-
Inspect Fuses and Breakers: Ensure the electrical components powering your system are on and function properly.
