Cincinnati Streetcar Project Receives National Award for Engineering, Design

CINCINNATI – The Cincinnati Bell Connector streetcar project received a national Honor Award last month from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC). The presentation took place during ACEC's annual Engineering Excellence Awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.

The streetcar was one of 36 projects selected for top awards demonstrating a high degree of achievement, value and ingenuity from a diverse pool of engineering projects across the country. The competition included such major projects as the World Trade Center Transportation Hub in New York, the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., and U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The honor is just one of several awards for engineering and architectural excellence given to the Cincinnati Streetcar team and its design partners of WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, HDR, and DNK Architects.

Other honors include a state level Outstanding Achievement Award at the ACEC Ohio Engineering Excellence Awards in March and awards from both the Ohio Masonry Association and Tri-State Masonry Institute (TMI) for design of our maintenance facility.

TMI’s jury panel commented that the facility’s design, “benefits the taxpayers of Cincinnati and patrons of its streetcar system in that it speaks to the emphasis placed on the investment in the quality of every component of the system…including the maintenance facility.”
