City Manager Long Announces New Assistant Fire Chief of Emergency Management

Today, City Manager Sheryl Long shares that Matthew Flagler has been named Assistant Chief of Emergency Management with the Cincinnati Fire Department. His duties will include overseeing Fire Dispatch, the Emergency Operation Center, and the City of Cincinnati's Emergency Operations Plans.

“Assistant Chief Flagler has showcased a passion and commitment to protecting our citizens through his work at the Cincinnati Fire Department. His expertise will be a vital resource to advance and innovate our Emergency Management operations,” said City Manager Sheryl Long.

Flagler started his career in the fire service in 1988 with the City of Wyoming Fire Department, moving in 1993 to the Green Township Fire Department. He joined the Cincinnati Fire Department in 2001 and has been promoted through the ranks of Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, and District Chief. Chief Flagler has spearheaded projects in various Divisions of the CFD, serving as Department Training Officer, Resource Manager, Department Communications Manager, Emergency Operations Center Staff for large-scale events, and PIO team member. He is a certified Paramedic, Fire Service Instructor and Trainer for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“I have known Matt for his entire career. I have mentored Matt from the rank of Lieutenant through his most recent appointment and had the opportunity to grow together personally and professionally throughout the years. Matt is well equipped to move this department further in the realm of emergency management. I am excited to see where he takes us, and what he can do,” said Chief Michael Washington.

Most recently, Flagler has served as the Acting Assistant Chief of the Administrative Services Division. In this role, Chief Flagler has led all Finance operations, managed over 30 facilities, directed fleet operations, and oversaw all equipment, supply, and uniform purchases for over 900 members of the department, both firefighters and civilian staff.
