Streetcar Progress Update: Week Ending Feb. 21, 2014

This week's big thaw came just in time for us to power through the Liberty & Race intersection this weekend!

Through Monday morning, Liberty is detoured around the trackwork site at Race Street...

...while crews work day and night. Here, they're installing rebar in the excavated track slab. (There are two types of rebar that the crew is holding: The bars that run along the track are #7 bars , or 0.875-inch diameter, and the bars running opposite of the track are #4 bars, or 0.5-inch diameter).

For quality control purposes, a Delta Railroad worker uses a calibrated track gauge to ensure we have the proper distance between the rails. This distance is also called the track gauge, and the Cincinnati Streetcar uses standard gauge rail (which means the distance from the inside of one rail to the other is 56.5 inches).

Excavation for the track has nearly reached Washington Park along Race Street. You can see the park in the background!

At Race and Henry streets, crews have been pouring footers for the Maintenance and Operations Facility.

Traffic Alerts

Our sewer renewal project scheduled for this week was postponed while Duke finished up its restoration work.

So, the detour of 13th Street at Race now will begin Monday, Feb. 24.

This closure is expected to take 5 days, weather-permitting. A detour will be clearly posted.
