Streetcar to Resume Full Service Along Entire Route
Jun 30, 2022
CINCINNATI - The CB Connector will resume full service along the entire streetcar route, including the downtown loop between Central Parkway and The Banks, as of Saturday, July 2.
Service in downtown's Central Business District has been suspended since June 12, when the roof of a 110-year-old six-story brick building collapsed, prompting the emergency closure of Main Street between Central Parkway and 12th Street. Crews began demolishing it and an adjacent building, both of which have been vacant since the former Davis Furniture closed in 2004. Demolition is nearly complete but the site will remain fenced off until all debris has been removed and the ground leveled.
The streetcar station stop adjacent to the collapsed building also was closed due to its proximity. That station stop will remain closed until damage to it has been repaired and city building inspectors have determined it is safe to remove the fencing around the demolition site.
Metro provided free bus service along the streetcar route to supplement suspended streetcar service. That free bus service is being discontinued.
Streetcar Ridership Records
Prior to this service disruption, the streetcar had been hitting record ridership levels every month since November. Passenger counts were continuing to increase in early June, with average daily ridership at 2,812 for the first 11 days of the month, up from 2,600 in May. By comparison, the average daily ridership during the first 11 days of the best June on record was 2,286 in 2017.
