ECC Community Responders Honored with Metro's Community Impact Award

Sep 21, 2026

Cincinnati, OH – Cincinnati’s Community Responders, along with partners from the Collaborative Agreement Community Care Initiative (CACCI), Cincinnati Public Schools, the Cincinnati City Manager's Office, Cincinnati Police Department, and the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation (3CDC), will receive Metro’s Community Impact Award for their important work at Government Square Transit Center and other Transit Centers around the city. Community Responders and partners will receive this award at the State of Metro 2026 Event later this week.

The Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center (ECC) is home to the Community Responder program, an initiative of the City of Cincinnati in proactive public service. Community Responder Teams are assigned to different neighborhoods in the City, watching out for quality-of-life issues and solving non-emergency City service problems with residents. A large part of their day during the school year involves being present at transit centers around the city when students and other Metro riders converge on the system's large transfer stations.

Community Responder teams remain visible at Government Square and Metro’s other high-traffic locations all school year and work to build positive connections with students, community members, and partner organizations.

"Thank you, Metro, for the recognition. We are grateful for the opportunity to be on the frontlines, engaging with our community. Working at the transit centers has given us the opportunity to mentor students, build meaningful relationships, and help solve real-life problems for patrons. This recognition means a lot and reinforces the importance of the work we do every day." - Vincent Edwards, Community Responder for the City of Cincinnati

Metro's Community Impact Award highlights the work of organizations and individuals who make significant contributions to improving the experience of Metro riders and the community at-large. This award specifically recognizes ECC's partnership with Metro and other organizations ensuring that Government Square, Metro's downtown transit hub, remains clean, safe, and inviting to riders and visitors alike.

Community Responder Teams work collaboratively with CPD, CACCI and 3CDC to provide snacks and activities for students, especially during the Holiday season or occasions such as Black History Month as they make their way home from a day of learning. As the school year continues, Community Responders will remain ready to help citizens in need, students looking for their bus, or visitors navigating their way around the city.
