Celebrating 30 Years of the ADA
Jul 01, 2020
CINCINNATI -- This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), one of the most important and wide-reaching pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S. history. The ADA is meant to ensure equal opportunity for all citizens, regardless of their disability status.
The City of Cincinnati joined Hamilton County Developmental Disabilities Services (HCDDS) and several local partners to hold a virtual celebration of Disability Pride in Cincinnati and celebrate this milestone anniversary. Our celebration kicked off July 1 with a proclamation from the City of Cincinnati declaring July 26, 2020 as "Americans with Disabilities Act Recommitment Day.”
Councilman David Mann read the proclamation, which says: “We must do our part to ensure our nation’s promise is within reach of all Cincinnati’s constituents and communities to bring forth the promise of hope and freedom that is envisioned by the passage of the ADA, so that every person receives equal access, equal opportunity and the equal respect they deserve.”
Throughout July, we will be celebrating Disability Pride in Cincinnati. You can find out more information on the HCDDS website.
