ECC Reminders as Daylight Saving Time Ends This Weekend
Oct 31, 2025
As clocks “fall back” for the end of Daylight-Saving Time, the Cincinnati Emergency Communications Center (ECC) encourages Cincinnatians to use part of their extra hour to create a free Smart911 profile.
Clocks "falling back" an hour can be a welcome change to wrap up the year with an extra hour of sleep, more time for evening activities or a chance to reset daily routines ahead of a busy holiday season. This year, take 10 minutes out of your extra hour to create a Smart911 family profile. It’s a simple step that can make a big difference in an emergency.
Residents can create a free profile through the Smart911 app or register online via the ECC’s webpage at this link. When someone with a Smart911 profile calls 9-1-1, their shared information instantly appears on the dispatcher’s screen, helping response teams reach the right location faster and with critical details already in hand. These profiles can make a significant difference in emergency outcomes by connecting responders with vital information right away.
As daylight hours shorten, it’s also a good time to review family safety plans. Discuss evening routines, curfews, and expectations for nighttime activities or errands to help keep everyone safe as nights come earlier.
“As we turn back the clocks, it’s a great reminder that preparation saves lives. Taking just a few minutes to set up a Smart911 profile can give first responders the information they need when every second counts. It’s one of the simplest ways Cincinnati residents can help us help them," said ECC Director Bill Vedra.
Be aware - when clocks change in both spring and fall, there’s an adjustment period when many of us aren’t quite used to the time change. This can increase the risk of car accidents, workplace mishaps, and home hazards due to sluggishness or fatigue. By gradually adjusting sleep schedules and updating morning, evening, and after-school routines, you can help ensure safety remains a priority whether in daylight or darkness.
Let's make sure we don't fall back on safety, Cincy!
