Airport Days at Lunken Airport takes place 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, September 5 - September 6. This annual event, hosted by Cincinnati Warbirds EAA Squadron 18, celebrates vintage aircraft and classic cars. It is free and open to the public with fees for select activities. View event details.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Historic and vintage military aircraft, plus corporate aircraft, on display on the main ramp behind the terminal
- Helicopter rides
- Vintage and contemporary military vehicles on display
- Classic car show
- Monster trucks
- Patriot color guard flag ceremony each day at noon
- Big band music all day
- Food trucks
- Exhibitor booths and vendors
- Free parking across from the terminal building
FEATURED ACTIVITY: Catch views or even a ride aboard two World War II-era historic aircraft as part of the B-29 DOC History Restored Tour. The aircraft will be open for static display beginning Thursday, September 3, with ride flights running Friday, September 4 through Monday, September 7, mornings around 9 - 10:30 a.m. (additional ride times may be added based on demand). Ground and cockpit tours continue each afternoon once the day's rides are complete. Tour tickets are $10 per person or $20 per family. Ride flight tickets are also available. Please note: Lunken Airport Days activities – including the car show, military vehicles, monster trucks, food trucks, and exhibitors – take place only Saturday, September 5 and Sunday, September 6. The B-29 DOC and Gunfighter aircraft will remain on display through Monday, September 7, but general festival activities will not be running that day.
- DOC, one of only two remaining airworthy B-29 Superfortresses in the world, is one of 1,644 B-29 bombers built by the Boeing Company in Wichita, KS, during World War II.
- Gunfighter is a North American P-51 D Model Mustang built the same year as DOC in 1945 before it was assigned to the "Mighty Eighth" Air Force in England during the war.
