4 Local Trails Get New Mile Markers
New Markers Improve Response Time for Safety Responders
Four paved trails will receive new mile markers this week, helping first responders locate injured trail users more quickly.
Pavement markings will be installed every 1/10th of a mile and will identify each of the four trails:
- Otto Armleder Park Trail
- Otto Armleder Park Connector Trail
- Lunken Airport Trail
- Ohio River Trail
The system is similar to the one used on interstate highways.
"We're committed to expanding our trail system in Cincinnati, and these markers help make sure it's safe and user-friendly," Mayor John Cranley said.

With recent expansions of the Ohio River Trail, and the new connection between the Armleder and Lunken Trails, there are now more than 10 miles of connected, paved trails in the area near Lunken Airport, Linwood, the East End and Mt. Washington.
Now, callers to 911 will be able to give a specific location such as “ORT 28.4,” (Ohio River Trail mile 28.4).
"There are many times that the Fire Department cannot quickly locate people who may be in need of medical assistance while using the trails," said Assistant Chief Ed Dadosky. "Permanently marking the trails enables Fire/EMS to respond to people in trouble in a much more timely manner."
The new mile markers are a collaboration between the City of Cincinnati and Hamilton County Great Parks.
