Interim Chief Adam D. Hennie

 

Interim Police Chief Adam D. Hennie is a dedicated law enforcement professional with more than 25 years of service to the Cincinnati Police Department. He began his career in 1999 as a member of the Department's 88th Recruit Class and has steadily risen through the ranks through a combination of exemplary leadership, operational expertise, and unwavering commitment to public service. His promotions include Sergeant in 2005, Lieutenant in 2008, Captain in 2021, and ultimately Lieutenant Colonel (Assistant Chief) before being appointed Interim Police Chief in 2025.

Throughout his distinguished career, Interim Chief Hennie has served in a variety of operational, investigative, and leadership assignments. His experience includes service in Districts 1, 2, and 4, as well as the Central Business Section. He has also worked in several specialized units, including the Vice Unit, District Five Investigative Unit, Internal Investigations Unit, Major Offenders Unit, Youth Services Unit, and the Police Academy. His leadership assignments have included serving as Night Chief, District Five Commander, and Central Business District Commander, where he oversaw complex public safety operations and community engagement initiatives.

Interim Chief Hennie's commitment to professional development is reflected in his educational and executive leadership accomplishments. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisville and a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute, the Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program, and the Police Executive Leadership College.

Prior to his law enforcement career, Interim Chief Hennie proudly served in the United States Navy, where he developed the values of discipline, service, and leadership that have guided his professional career.

In recognition of his contributions to law enforcement, Chief Hennie received the Hamilton County Law Enforcement Award for Superior Achievement in Police Leadership in 2021. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to advancing public safety, fostering ethical leadership, strengthening community partnerships, and mentoring the next generation of law enforcement professionals.
