If a private company (e.g., Rumpke, Republic) handles your residential trash collection, you are not eligible for the City of Cincinnati's Bulk Item Pickup service.
Any buildings that are not eligible for regularly City garbage collection are considered commercial and will need to contact a commercial waste hauler for service.
We recommend checking with the provider of your regular garbage service to see if they also can pick up large items, and also explore online for other companies that provide this service. The City of Cincinnati cannot recommend a particular business.
If the following is true:
- You live inside the City of Cincinnati
- A City of Cincinnati garbage truck picks up your trash each week (which is only offered to eligible single-family homes, and residential-only buildings with four or fewer dwelling units)
Then: The City of Cincinnati's Department of Public Services (DPS) offers a free Bulk Item Pickup service, which can be scheduled through 311.
More Information:
- Do not schedule bulk collections for small or light household items which can be lifted easily (under 45 lbs or approximately less than 4’x4’x4’). Up to three small items can be placed out for regular collections.
- The City of Cincinnati offers this free service to eligible residential locations. Review the guidelines and eligible items, as defined by DPS, before submitting a request.
Process:
- A scheduled pickup date will be assigned at the time the request is submitted. You can find this date in your email confirmation, or by looking up your request online.
- Review the instructions and guidelines on the DPS website.
- Items should be set out the night prior to your scheduled collection day but no sooner; if items are not on the curb when the truck arrives, you will need to reschedule for another pick up date. Items must be placed by the curb in a place accessible for automated collection (no obstructions, low-hanging wires, branches, parked cars, etc.).
- Different items may be picked up by different trucks. Do not call if items are still on curb before 5:00pm on the scheduled pick-up day.
The City of Cincinnati offers this Bulk Item Pickup to eligible residential locations inside our city limits only.
If you live in a township, village, or any other city, check with your local government to see if they provide a similar service.
