Litter and Dumping - General Information

The City of Cincinnati is committed to our effort to keep the City’s neighborhoods clean, safe, and healthy; addressing litter and dumping is one of the ways we do that.

A wide range of issues with litter, dumping, and trash can be reported through the 311 system, on both public and private property. The location and type of issue will dictate where 311 will route the request.

  • Litter issues on private property are typically routed to the Department of Buildings & Inspections to be handled through the code enforcement process.
  • Litter issues on public property (any property owned and maintained by the government) is the responsibility of the applicable government agency. For many spaces maintained by the City of Cincinnati, this routed to the Department of Public Services, but they are not the only agency that may address litter.

If you see illegal dumping in progress, and can help identify the person(s) or vehicle(s) involved, call us immediately at 311 or 513-765-1212 for a police response.
