Warsaw Ave Safety Project
Background
Warsaw Avenue has been identified as a corridor with a high number of crashes. DOTE has worked with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to conduct a safety study and develop recommendations to improve safety on Warsaw Avenue between Glenway and Grand, and at the Glenway, Warsaw, Seton, and Quebec intersection.
Status
DOTE has already taken some steps to improve safety along the Warsaw Avenue corridor including improved signage, the installation of pedestrian-activated flashing lights at crosswalks, the allowance of 24-hour parking, and four sets of speed cushions.
The following street redesign options were shared with the East Price Hill Improvement Association:
Existing Conditions: There are currently 4 lanes of traffic with parking restrictions on each side.
Option 1: One travel lane in each direction, a center turn lane (with raised island where possible) and 24 hour parking on one side of the road.
Option 2: One travel lane in each direction, a center turn lane (with raised island where possible) and a bike lane in each direction with no on-street parking.
Option 3: Narrowing the road to 34’, one travel lane in each direction, a center turn lane (with raised island where possible), wider sidewalks, and no on-street parking. This option is the most expensive due to the need to replace all curb, sidewalk, and stormwater drainage.
Based on the feedback received, Option 1 was preferred by the community. DOTE is actively seeking grant funding to cover the costs of restriping Warsaw Ave.
