Traffic Alert: Wheelchair Games Block Party (Thursday), Races (Saturday) to Affect Local Traffic

CINCINNATI – Hundreds of athletes are in Cincinnati this week to take part in the 37th National Veteran’s Wheelchair Games. As a way to celebrate, there are a variety of events taking place around town to welcome the athletes, their families and various dignitaries.

The events kicked off Monday with a special demonstration at Fountain Square followed by an Opening Ceremony at the Duke Energy Convention Center. There's also a block party Thursday night and road races on Saturday.

Below is a list of traffic information for the block party and the Races:

Block Party:  In order for the Block Party to be held, the following street will close on Thursday, July 20 at noon, and remain closed until approximately 10:00 p.m.:

  • Elm Street - closed between Fifth Street and Sixth Street

Races: In order for the races to be held, the following streets will close on Saturday, July 22 at 7:00 a.m. (except where noted) and remain closed until approximately 1:00 p.m.:

  • Mehring Way - closed between Johnny Bench Way and E Pete Rose Way (Closes at 4 a.m. for Staging)
  • Mehring Way - closed between Freeman Avenue and E. Pete rose Way
  • Gest Street - closed south of Third Street
  • Central Avenue - closed south of W. Pete Rose Way
  • Elm Street - closed south of Freedom Way
  • Joe Nuxhall Way - closed south of Freedom Way
  • Johnny Bench Way - closed
  • E. Pete Rose Way - westbound closed between Broadway and Johnny Bench Way

Motorists are reminded to use caution around the event site and to seek alternate routes if possible.
