Update on City Pothole Repair Efforts
Feb 10, 2023
The Department of Public Services (DPS) prides itself on quickly and efficiently responding to reported potholes. DPS patches potholes across a network of roadways consisting of over 3,000 lane miles. An aggressive approach to pothole repair will be implemented beginning Monday, February 13 (weather permitting) to keep up with demand and provide basic street maintenance services.
The strategic approach will utilize a combination of DPS crews and contractor crews. The contractor crews will help patch potholes and repair road indentations on major roadways, while DPS crews will focus efforts on residential streets.
About Potholes
Potholes are caused by the expansion and contraction of roads during the freeze-thaw cycle. The pavement weakens further as the process repeats. Potholes often appear in late winter and early spring due to changes in temperatures. Please see below for the latest pothole statistics.
Pothole Service Requests (SR) 01/01/2023 to 02/09/2023:
- 643 Pothole SR’s Received (excludes duplicates)
- 691 Closed Pothole SR’s
- 2,039 Total Potholes Repaired (multiple pothole repairs per SR)
DPS encourages citizens to be “Pothole Spotters” by reporting pothole locations. Identifying pothole locations will allow DPS to do a temporary fix to make travel safe. Potholes can be reported by calling 311 or (513) 765-1212, visiting www.311Cincy.com, or by downloading the 311Cincy mobile app.
