Don't Feed the Ducks!...Please.

Here's why you should not feed ducks and geese:

Bread is terrible for ducks & geese :(

1. Most of the food people feed ducks and geese is unhealthy for them. Bread is one of the most popular foods people provide, but it can be harmful to duck and geese digestive systems and may cause them to produce significantly more waste.

2. Bread provides little nutritional value for ducks and geese. Feeding them too much bread will fill their stomachs without providing nutrients, contributing to malnutrition. This may lead to a permanent wing deformity known as “angel wing.”

3. If you still feed the ducks and geese, no matter how much we ask you not to (we get it they're cute) then please offer healthier foods such as lettuce, cabbage, corn (not popcorn), peas, broccoli, and tomatoes. Most fruits are also safe for ducks and geese, but citrus fruits should be avoided.

Feeding ducks & geese is also bad for the environment

4. The more people feed ducks and geese, the more dependent they can become on food provided by people and the more likely they are to congregate around lakes. This can create significant health and maintenance concerns. Large numbers of ducks and geese leave substantial amounts of feces and urine throughout the lawn, sidewalks, and pond. The accumulation of waste on the lawn creates an unpleasant and unsanitary environment, especially for people or other animals who use these areas. While feeding the ducks and geese may seem harmless, it encourages them to gather in greater numbers and remain in the area. If you feed them, they will come and leave their mess behind.

So please for the ducks & geese sake, don't feed them, or at least feed them frozen peas.
