About the Events

The original Magic Forest Halloween Hikes started in 1980 by naturalist Vivian Wagner at Caldwell. Both nights were focused on the characters. It is non-scary and is a fun Halloween experience while teaching different nature concepts.

Our Friday night program will feature eight interactive character stations, where each group travels from one stop to the next to learn, explore, and have fun through engaging stories and hands-on experiences.

Each station brings a different topic to life. For example, the Green Witch/Wizard introduces children to the wonders of photosynthesis, while the Four Seasons Sisters hilariously argue over which season is the best, only to discover that each season has something special and beautiful to offer. At another station, Mother Nature prepares the animals for winter and teaches children about the changes that take place in nature as the seasons change.

These interactive character experiences have become especially popular with younger kids, ages 3–10. The combination of storytelling, imagination, and educational lessons makes learning fun and memorable for children while keeping them engaged throughout the hike.

Saturday night is only a trail walk and there will not be characters. We will have a campfire going, so some familiy members can stay back while others hike! We will also have all the pumpkins lit up and luminaires on the trail. This hike is more self-paced and quiet to enjoy.
