Surface Treatments Underway in Clifton, Heights, CUF and Mt. Auburn

CINCINNATI – Final surface treatments are being applied on streets in Clifton, Mt. Auburn, Heights and the CUF areas of Clifton Heights, University Heights and Fairview this week. Crews will begin work in East Price Hill, North Price Hill and Lower Price Hill by early October.

This work is part of the city’s first comprehensive preventative maintenance program since 1999, covering a total of 259 streets in 18 neighborhoods this year. The city plans to spend approximately $3 million annually on preventative maintenance through June 30, 2021 with funding from its Capital Acceleration Plan (CAP).

Preventative maintenance has been done in phases this summer, beginning in June with street repairs and concluding now with surface treatments. The type of work varied, depending on the condition of each street.

Repairs are finished in all 18 neighborhoods. Crews also have finished final paving in Bond Hill, Roselawn, Spring Grove Village and Winton Hills. All work is slated to finish by late October.

Residents and businesses affected by surface treatments will receive notice from the contractor approximately 48 hours in advance.

The contractor also will post “no parking” signs prior to the start of work, as needed, per street.

In most cases, temporary restrictions will be in place for less than 24 hours and a street will be reopened by 6:00 p.m. Violators will be towed per city ordinance.

Crews generally work 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday but are allowed to work later into the evening or on Saturdays.

All roads will be reopened to through traffic during non-work hours.

Any rescheduled work will be performed the following day, in most cases. Updates will be sent, if needed.

About the Capital Acceleration Plan (CAP)

The Capital Acceleration Plan is improving streets and City owned vehicles to eliminate long-term maintenance and repairs costs. In terms of city streets, CAP provides $69 million in additional funding for improvements over the next six years. Combined with the annual street improvement program, outside grants and CAP, Cincinnati is investing approximately $172 million to rehabilitate or resurface more than half its 2,936 total lane miles in all 52 neighborhoods by June 30, 2021. This investment will improve safety, save money, enhance the city’s business environment and raise the overall quality of life for residents.
