Incident Description:

This reported structure fire quickly escalated from a reduced one alarm response to a three-alarm fire due to its location, namely between the cockloft and the roof, advanced stage on arrival, proximity to the other exposures comprising the strip mall of which it is a part, and prone to early collapse lightweight truss construction. Taking into account the aforementioned, the initial incident commander aptly ordered all crews out of the building early on and changed the strategy and tactics from offensive to defensive abandoning interior lines for safer and more effective aerial master streams from ladder trucks positioned on three of the four sides of the building. The Fire Chief and other members of the command staff also responded providing additional organizational support and advice to meet the varied challenges this stubborn fire and eventual partial roof collapse presented. No firefighters or civilians were injured during this extended fire suppression effort. The cause of this fire remains under investigation, for further information please contact Cincinnati Fire Department's PIO, Cathy Ritter.
