Show coincides with annual Taste of Cincinnati
CINCINNATI – The high-octane TV show “American Ninja Warrior” will invade the Cincinnati riverfront May 18 – 27 to tape part of its upcoming season.
To accommodate construction and use of the show’s elaborate obstacle course, Second Street will be closed from Elm Street to Walnut Street at The Banks for that 10-day period. Setup and installation of the course will take five days.
Cincinnati police officers will be stationed at key intersections on Second Street, including Elm and Walnut streets, during morning and afternoon rush hours Monday through Friday to help direct motorists around the show’s venue. Police also will be on site for extended periods throughout the two dates the show is filmed in the evenings and overnight on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25.
Filming of the show also will overlap with the annual Taste of Cincinnati festival during Memorial Day Weekend. Road closures for Taste of Cincinnati begin at 6:00 p.m. May 24 along Fifth Street and remain in place until 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 28.
Please see map below, which shows the location of the planned road closures along Second Street and on Race and Vine streets over Fort Washington Way for American Ninja Warrior. The map also shows the closures planned for Taste of Cincinnati along Fifth Street from Main Street to the ramps for Interstates 71 and 471, Columbia Parkway, and parts of Sycamore and Broadway streets. The City of Cincinnati worked with the producers of American Ninja Warrior, Film Cincinnati and Hamilton County officials for several months to determine a suitable site for the show venue. Second Street was determined to be the best overall option for all parties involved.
Cincinnati is one of six cities chosen for the show’s qualifying rounds. The Cincinnati City Qualifying episode (first night) will air July 1 on NBC. The City Finals will air later in the season. In addition to Cincinnati, stops will be made in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Oklahoma City, Baltimore, and Seattle/Tacoma.
