CINCINNATI – The intersection of Columbia Parkway/U.S. 50, William Howard Taft Road and Torrence Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction for approximately six weeks starting at 9:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 16.

The closures are needed to accommodate crews rehabbing the parkway, which includes significant concrete repairs in the heavily traveled, multi-lane intersection.

Crews will dig up and repair the road base, then repour concrete one lane at a time. Each lane will take several days to excavate and repair, plus additional time for new concrete to cure. Lanes will be reopened as each is completed.

Electronic message boards will be stationed ahead of the work zone to help alert motorists. Cincinnati Police also will be on site to manage traffic flow and maintain safety. Motorists should travel through the work zone with care and watch for changing traffic patterns.

The work is part of a Cincinnati Department of Transportation & Engineering (DOTE) street rehab along the parkway from the Taft-Torrence intersection east to Delta Avenue in Columbia-Tusculum. The $3 million, state-funded project started in late April and is expected to wrap up by early November. The contractor is John R. Jurgensen Co.

Please Note: Westbound lane closures west of Taft Road for the Columbia Parkway Hillside Stabilization project remain in place. Both the rehab and hillside projects are being managed by DOTE. The hillside stabilization project is expected to be completed in September.

In addition, the Ohio Department of Transportation is rehabbing the adjacent Martin Street Bridge over Columbia Parkway near downtown. Through traffic is allowed but there are periodic lane closures immediately underneath the bridge to accommodate crews and equipment staged on the parkway.

Motorists commuting to and from Downtown Cincinnati from the East Side are encouraged to plan, allow extra time and consider alternate routes, as needed.
