I-71 North Bridge Deck: Eggleston, Sentinel, Culvert Closing For Demo
Apr 20, 2017
CINCINNATI – Parts of Eggleston Avenue, Culvert Street and Sentinel Street will be closed nightly from 9 o’clock to 6:00 a.m. beginning tonight and tomorrow, Friday, April 20 and 21, and again Monday, April 24, through Friday, April 28. The closures are needed for crews who are beginning overhead demolition of the northbound Interstate 71 bridge deck between Lytle Tunnel and the pedestrian bridge to Mount Adams.
Motorists traveling west on Eggleston will be detoured to Third Street, Culvert and then Reedy. Motorists traveling east on Eggleston will be detoured to Reedy, then Culvert.
Culvert, Sentinel or Eggleston will be opened intermittently to accommodate the detour.
The work is part of an Ohio Department of Transportation project to replace more than 1,000 feet of bridge deck on both sides of I-71 between the entrance to Lytle Tunnel and the pedestrian bridge to Mount Adams.
Crews finished the southbound deck on I-71 earlier this month.
Work started last September. Demo and reconstruction on the northbound side is expected to be finished this September.
Additional closures on Eggleston, Culvert and Sentinel are planned. Updates will be posted as needed.
The entrance ramp to I-71 north via Fifth Street and the Third Street exit from I-71 south also are closed for this phase of the project. Traffic has been re-routed to the other side of the interstate to accommodate crews working on the northbound deck.
The deck reconstruction project is one of several ODOT has underway in downtown Cincinnati, including renovations to the adjacent Lytle Tunnel. Read more about these and all of ODOT’s projects in Greater Cincinnati at http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/d08/Pages/hamiltoncountyprojects.aspx
