Construction Begins on Next Phase of Wasson Way Bike Trail

May 20, 2019

CINCINNATI – Construction on the second phase of the Wasson Way Bike Trail is underway.

This section of the trail will extend over Interstate 71, along a former railroad bridge from Tamarack Avenue in Hyde Park to Montgomery Road in Evanston. It will add another 0.7 miles to the current 0.6 miles of constructed trail. The first phase of the trail was finished last year between Madison Avenue and Tamarack.

Crews on Monday, May 20, began preparing the site situated between the Dana Avenue and Smith Road exits on I-71. Work will include excavation and demolition to remove the old railroad ballast that once supported the tracks, a parapet wall and railing.

The project includes repainting the bridge over the interstate and the construction of retaining walls to hold embankment into place for the trail. Crews will erect and suspend a platform under the bridge for the painting phase in late summer.

The impact to motorists will be minimal but various lane closures will be needed as the project progresses. Updates will be posted in advance to alert motorists. The project is scheduled to wrap up by Nov. 1, 2019.
