It was January 1, 2016 when the City of Cincinnati began its Minority and Women Business Enterprise Program (MBE/WBE). Year three is now underway, and steady progress continues to be made.
A report just released by the Department of Economic Inclusion (DEI) shows during the first quarter of 2018, (January 1 – March 31) a total of $7.09 million was awarded to MBE/WBE firms. During that same time period, $3,291,502 was spent in Hamilton County with firms certified under Chapter 324 under contracts with MBE and WBE inclusion goals.
In the first quarter, of the total $7.09 million awarded to MBE/WBE firms, $4.3 million, which represents 13.01% of total award, was awarded to MBEs, and $2.787 million (8.42% of total award) was awarded to WBEs across all contract types.
Spend in Hamilton County with City-certified MBE/WBE firms working on contracts with MBE and WBE inclusion goals or receiving payments as prime contractors in the first quarter of 2018 was $3,291,502.97. Of that amount $1.92 million went to MBEs, $481,685 went to MWBEs and $886,798 went to WBEs.
These quarterly reports only provide a snapshot view of how the City is progressing toward reaching its annual MBE/WBE and SBE goals. The information gathered each quarter is used to strategize for the coming months.
