CINCINNATI – The City of Cincinnati’s Department of Economic Inclusion has joined representatives from the Goldman Sachs Foundation to kick off the company’s 10,000 Small Business program. The 10,000 Small Business program is designed to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing them with greater access to education, financial capital and business support services. The 10,000 Small Businesses program currently operates in 30 markets in the U.S. through a network of more than 100 academic and community partners.

Cincinnati just recently became the third City in Ohio to receive funding for the Goldman Sachs program, with Cincinnati State Community College being the central location for the program.  Small business owners passionate about growing their business and creating jobs in their communities are encouraged to apply for this program.  Some of the criteria includes:

  • Business in operation for at least two years
  • Business revenues over $150,000 in the most recent fiscal year
  • Business with a minimum of four employees (including the owner)

Business owners chosen to participate in the program are expected to:

  • Attend a program orientation
  • Complete 11 convenient learning sessions
  • Participate in out-of-class activities, including completing assignments, attending networking events and business support clinics (approx. 8 – 10 hours per week)
  • Create a business growth plan over the course of the program

"We have 120 minority-owned firms who have been certified with the city and 147 women-owned businesses certified with the city," says Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley. "Those are some of the businesses we want to connect with 10,000 small businesses."
