CINCINNATI – The City of Cincinnati continues to create great opportunities for City certified minority-owned (MBE) and women-owned businesses (WBE) through its innovative Capital Acceleration Program, or CAP. During calendar year 2017, City certified MBE/WBEs received $6.6 million for work they did in support of CAP’s street rehabilitation and maintenance initiatives. That represents 22% of the total spend-to-date on the CAP road program.

For their part, 11 certified MBEs provided public improvement plans, concrete work, pavement repair, hauling and construction materials services, general labor and traffic control. Seven WBEs provided traffic control and traffic signage, pavement sawing and hauling, electrical work, asphalt paving, topsoil and seeding supplies.

During 2017, the City completed 110 lane miles of street paving and 166 miles of capital preventative maintenance. In addition, the City also funded the completion of 80 lane miles of capital preventative maintenance work carried over from 2016.

This year, 2018, the Department of Transportation and Engineering (DOTE) will award a total of seven contracts to complete 101 lane miles of street paving and 90 lane miles of preventative maintenance surface treatments that will touch 401 different city streets across 41 neighborhoods. Four of those contracts have been awarded with commitments for an average of 12.9% MBE and 9.6% WBE participation.

The CAP program saves taxpayer money by investing in streets and City vehicles to eliminate costly long-term replacement, maintenance and repairs. For more on the CAP program report click HERE.
