Cops go to Pops

Oct 22, 2021

CINCINNATI, OH--- Hyde Park couple Mary and Joe Brinkmeyer, longtime advocates for local law enforcement and loyal supporters of the Cincinnati Pops, have purchased 160 tickets to the '21-'22 season of the Cincinnati Pops concerts to give to Cincinnati Police Officers to demonstrate their gratitude for their dedicated service.

The Brinkmeyers have been active fundraisers in their Hyde Park neighborhood for District Two police officers, supporting them with Skyline, Starbucks, and Jersey Mikes gift certificates. They have contributed to the printing of yard signs posted in their neighborhood.  Mary and Joe have also been supporters of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and Cincinnati Opera for many years.

Wanting to do even more for the Officers, Joe contacted the Orchestra’s group sales department after receiving a 2021—22 Pops season advertisement from the CSO. An idea was hatched: to show their appreciation for both the CPD and the Orchestra, the Brinkmeyers worked with Sgt.  Alaina Romero, District Two Administrative Supervisor and Lt. Donna Robinson, CPD Public Relations Commander to offer Cincinnati Pops tickets free of charge to CPD officers. Mary and Joe have purchased 80 pairs of tickets for Pops performances throughout season, which Lt. Robinson will allocate, two tickets per officer, on a first-come, first-served basis.

"The Cincinnati Police Department is appreciative and honored by Mary and Joe’s invitation to attend the Cincinnati Pops,” said CPD Lieutenant Donna Robinson, Public Relations Commander. “Members of the department look forward to with great anticipation the brilliant and inspiring performances of Holiday Pops, Cirque Goes Broadway, A Tribute to Aretha Franklin and JMR’s Greatest Hits. Being told you are appreciated is one of the simplest and most uplifting things you can hear. Thanks again to Mary and Joe for recognizing the dedicated members of the Cincinnati Police Department.”

“We thank Mary and Joe for their longtime support of the Orchestra,” said Cincinnati Pops Conductor John Morris Russell (JMR). “Honoring our first responders and our men and women in uniform is a time-honored Cincinnati Pops tradition, and we couldn’t be happier that Mary and Joe have chosen to honor CPD officers by inviting them to Music Hall to experience our Orchestra.”

The new program has already proven to be a hit with the CPD officers, and Lt. Robinson has already received over 200 ticket requests for Holiday Pops, Cirque Goes to Broadway, A Tribute To Aretha Franklin and JMR’s Greatest Hits.

“Mary and I are calling this ‘Cops Go to Pops,’” said Joe Brinkmeyer. “By making this gift to the men and women of the Cincinnati Police Department, Mary and I hope to inspire others within the Cincinnati community to find their own special way of expressing kindness and appreciation to those who serve and protect us. Of course, at the same time to show support to the Cincinnati Pops!”
