GCWW Receives Funding for Water Main Projects

Greater Cincinnati Water Works (GCWW) has received grants and loans from the State of Ohio for water main projects totaling over $2.3 million.  On July 1, 2004, the Ohio Public Works Commission approved funding through the State Capital Improvement Program (SCIP) for numerous projects throughout the State of Ohio.  The GCWW received three awards: one loan project, one credit enhancement (grant) and one grant project through a joint application with the Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering (CDOTE).

GCWW will use the awards for the following projects:

  • Countywide Water Main Improvements - $990,000 credit enhancement (grant) to pay a portion of the bond interest to replace 147 existing water mains and construct 4 new water mains throughout Hamilton County.
  • Harrison Avenue Water Main Replacement - $980,000 loan (20 year, 0% interest) to replace a 24” water main with a 36” water main between Alder Street and Fairmount Drive.
  • River Road Water Main Replacement - $343,398 grant to replace a water main between Dart Street and Illinois Avenue.  This work is included with a CDOTE street resurfacing project.

The funds for the SCIP program are obtained from the sale of bonds sold each year by the State of Ohio.  These funds are used to repair or replace existing infrastructure.
