A significant accomplishment for GCWW, the successful initiation of wholesale water service to Boone County and the City of Florence in Northern Kentucky, has proven to be successful during its first year of operation.
This project boasts the following facts:
The largest interstate transfer of finished water in the country.
The first continuous operation of a remote booster chlorine feed system.
Wholesale water service stated on March 4, 2003
Average daily pumpage for 2003 was 8.15/mgd
Maximum daily pumpage during the summer was 13.23/mgd
Total water pumped during 2003 was 2.5 billion gallons, or 5.1% of all water delivered to GCWW customers.
This project required GCWW staff to develop a method to continuously monitor and operate the new Constance Reservoir and Pumping Station, numerous elevated storage tanks, and two booster pump stations owned by Boone County and the City of Florence.
This work involved several facilities including the Constance Pump Station owned by GCWW and located in Northern Kentucky, the U.S. 25, Center Street, Graves Road and the Y’all Elevated Tank, and the Ground Storage Tank and associated pump station at Double Eagle. GCWW carefully coordinated the start up of each facility with Boone County, the City of Florence, and the Contractor.
Early during the 1st quarter of 2003, dry testing on the operation of the Constance Pumping Station was performed and communications with all outlying tanks and facilities were verified. The wet test occurred later during that same quarter with actual operations beginning in March 2003.
During the test period, proper operation of the pumps, valves, surge tank, electrical equipment and other facilities was verified. In addition, billing meters were calibrated, chemical feed systems were checked out and chemical delivery and handling procedures were established.
The service to Northern Kentucky is possibly one of GCWW’s greatest achievements in 2003 and is a reflection of the knowledge and resolve of GCWW employees to continually advance and improve services to our customers.
