The primary mission of the Structures Section is to maintain the integrity of the critical structural elements of the transportation infrastructure, the bridges and retaining walls.
The structural engineers and design technicians in the bridges work group provide a wide range of services to other agencies, including evaluation, analysis, and structural design of many infrastructure elements including traffic poles, other structures in the right of way, and decorative enhancements.
The geotechnical engineering work group possesses the specialized education, training, and experience to evaluate hillside stability, monitor hillside movements, and design landslide corrections and retaining walls. The engineers and design technicians in the geotechnical engineering work group produce cost-effective solutions by blending our in-house expertise in geology, geotechnical and structural engineering. The geotechnical engineering work group also provides consultation and engineering design services to other city agencies for retaining walls and foundations of all types.
