Q. Can I have the City of Cincinnati survey my property?
A. No, you need to hire a private surveyor. There is a listing of surveyors in the yellow pages.

Q. Who do I call for appliance pick up?
A. Call the Division of Sanitation at 352-3691 to arrange a collection date and give them your address. This is a free service.

Q. How do I locate the right-of-way line in front of my property to install a fence?
A. Contact the Permit and License Center at 352-3463 and request a right-of-way setback.

Q. Do I need a permit to move an oversized load on city streets?
A. Yes. You need to contact  John Luginbill 
of the Permit and License Center at 352-5216 with the size, weight, origin and destination.

Q. How do I obtain benchmark information?
A. Call the Permit and License Center at 352-3463 with the benchmark identification number and location.

Q:  How do I obtain a reserved handicapped parking space? 
A:  Traffic Engineering will install “handicapped parking only” signs for mobility impaired drivers who have a valid State of Ohio handicapped parking placard and who do not have off street parking at their residence.  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729, Kevin Flaherty at 352-3745 or 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.  Qualifying individuals will be sent an application to complete.

Q:  What is the procedure to have truck loading zones, parking signs or meters removed, installed, or have the time limits changed? 
A:  Provide Traffic Engineering with the location and the reason for the proposed change.  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.

Q:  What can be done to slow traffic on my street? 
A:  Traffic Engineering will investigate the need for additional speed limit signs or a change in the speed limit.  If our investigation indicates excessive speeding is prevalent then a referral can be sent to the police district for enforcement.  The traffic calming or speed hump program is suspended at this time.  Traffic Engineering will take requests for future consideration and forward them to our manager of the street calming program in the Transportation Planning Section of DOT&E.  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.

Q:  How can I get an intersection changed from two-way stop control to four-way stop control?
A:  The decision to install any stop control is based on the intersection’s recent safety record, visibility, and vehicular and pedestrian volumes.  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or 352-3729 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate the investigation.

Q:  Whom do I contact to have a street name sign installed?
A:  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to have a missing street name sign installed.  For repairs to existing signs call 591-6000.

Q:  How do I obtain a traffic count?
A:  Call Jon Childress at 352-3729 or 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering for traffic count information within the corporation limits of the City of Cincinnati.  For count information outside of the City but within Hamilton County, contact the Hamilton County Engineer’s office at 946-8400.

Q:  Can the green light at the intersection stay lit longer?
A:  Traffic Engineering staff will initiate an investigation of the signal controller timing and, if applicable, the traffic detector operation at the particular intersection.  Contact Roy Jones at 352-3737 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.

Q:  Whom do I call if traffic signal timing is a problem?
A:  If the signal timing was working and now does not, contact Customer Service at 591-6000 for repairs.  Otherwise, contact Roy Jones at 352-3737 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering.  Traffic Engineering will initiate an investigation of the signal controller timing at each intersection along the route and make any necessary timing changes.

Q:   I experience difficulty in making a Left Turn at a traffic signal or need to wait through multiple signal cycles to make my turn?
A:   If this appears to be a malfunction, contact Customer Service at 591-6000 for repairs.  Otherwise, contact Roy Jones at 352-3737 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering.  Traffic Engineering will initiate an investigation of the intersection’s operation to determine if a left turn arrow is needed or, if one exists, if its time should be increased.

Q:  There is not enough light on my street.  Can additional lights be installed?
A:  Traffic Engineering will investigate the light level at the location requested.  Determination of the light level is based on the spacing between poles and the size of the Luminaires.  They will also look for other factors that may prevent light from reaching the targeted area.  If their analysis reveals that the light level does not meet our adopted standards by City Council, Traffic engineering will send to the requestor a petition to be signed by all abutting property owners affected by the installation of the additional light.  Once the signed petition is returned Traffic Engineering, they will authorize CINergy to install the new light at no additional cost to the property owners.  Contact Roy Jones at 352-3737 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.

Q:  How long do I have to wait for a green signal indication to come up?
A:  Traffic signals in the City can result in a wait of up to two minutes until the green signal indication comes up.  If you experience a wait longer than this, please contact our Customer Service office at 591-6000, to report a malfunctioning traffic signal.

Q:  The streetlight is shinning through my window.  What can be done?
A:  CINergy can provide a shade on the streetlight in question prevent the light from entering your window or property for a fee of $45.00.  Contact Roy Jones at 352-3737 or 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to initiate this process.

Q:  How do I request the installation of a marked crosswalk?
A:  Except where prohibited by signage, it is legal for pedestrians to cross the street at all intersections.  However, not all intersections have marked crosswalks.  The City reserves marking crosswalks to those locations where a large number of pedestrians cross on a daily basis.  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to further discuss the possibility of installing a marked crosswalk.

Q:  How do I get pavement markings on the street changed or repainted?
A:  Contact Jon Childress at 352-3729 or at 352-6229 of the Division of Traffic Engineering to request changes to the existing pavement markings.  Contact our Customer Service office at 591-6000 for repainting of existing pavement markings.
