Streetcar Progress Update: Week Ending Oct. 11, 2013

Orange vehicle designAs you probably already know, we unveiled the vehicle design this week. The Cincinnati Streetcar will be the first 100% low-floor rail vehicle in the United States, making it incredibly accessible to persons of all abilities.

As a reminder: Elm Street will be closed between 12th and 14th streets on Tuesday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Other Progress This Week:

  • Demolition and basement backfilling continued at the Maintenance and Operations Facility site (near Henry & Race streets).
  • Exploratory digging for utilities started on Race Street by the School for Creative and Performing Arts.
  • Traffic control conduit installation continued on Elm Street between 14th and 15th streets. Work started on Race Street near Findlay Street; and on Race Street near 12th Street.
  • Water main installation continued near the corner of Central Parkway and Walnut Street. Work began on Walnut Street just south of Central Parkway.
  • New sewer installation continued on Elm Street just south of Liberty Street.
  • Removal of existing pavement continued on Elm Street next to Washington Park. Work started one block north, on Elm Street between 14th and 15th streets.
  • Trackwork continued on Elm Street next to Washington Park.
  • Duke Energy conducted gas work on Race Street from Henry to Elder streets.
  • Duke also conducted electrical work on 12th Street from Vine to Elm streets.
  • Sewer work took place on Elm Street from 12th to 15th streets.
  • Cincinnati Bell did work on Walnut Street between 6th and 7th streets.

Planned For Next Week:

  • Water main installation will continue on Walnut Street between Central Parkway and 9th Street.
  • Traffic control conduit installation will continue on Race Street near Findlay Street; and on Race Street next to the School for Creative and Performing Arts.
  • Exploratory digging for utilities will continue on Walnut Street near 8th Street. Work will resume on Race Street near Findlay Street.
  • New sewer installation will continue on Elm Street just south of Liberty Street.
  • Backfilling and debris removal will continue at the Maintenance and Operations Facility site near Race and Henry streets.
  • Existing pavement removal will continue on Elm Street from 12th to 15th streets. Traffic will be limited to 1 lane, and the Elm Street entrance to Washington Park Garage will remain closed.
  • Trackwork will continue on Elm Street next to Washington Park. Elm Street will be closed on this block from 9am to 2pm Tuesday, Oct. 15. Trackwork will start on Elm Street from 14th to 15th streets.
  • Duke will perform underground gas work on Race Street between Henry and Elder streets.
  • Duke will also perform underground electrical work on 12th Street at Jackson Street; on 12th Street between Race and Elm streets; and on Race Street just south of Liberty Street.
  • Sewer work will take place on Elm Street between Elder and Henry streets.
  • Cincinnati Bell will be working on Elm Street near Liberty Street; and on Elm Street near Findlay Street.
  • Notification to businesses and residents will start on Elm Street between Wade and Green streets.
  • The steel framework is going into place on Elm Street next to Washington Park.
