Streetcar Progress Update: Week Ending March 7, 2014

Did you know March 2-8, 2014 is National Women in Construction Week?

It's a good time to highlight the women who've been valued members of Cincinnati Streetcar project along every step of the way -- from design conception to engineering to the now-daily construction you see in Over-the-Rhine and the Central Business District.

Women in Construction

Above are some of the women involved in the Cincinnati Streetcar project (L-R):

  • Laura Collins (Messer Project Manager)
  • Sarah Perrino (City of Cincinnati Field Engineer)
  • Delores Williams (Prus Cement Finisher)
  • Vercina Warren (Messer Carpenter)

You can learn more about National Women in Construction Week here.

MOF concrete placement

This week, crews poured the concrete floor for the wide and narrow pits at the Maintenance and Operations Facility. These pits are where the car will pull into the building on tracks and maintenance can be performed on the vehicles from below.

Race Street concrete placement

The warmer weather late in the week has allowed us to start placing concrete all over the site. Crews are heading south on Race Street.

Race Street concrete roller screed

Here, crews are pulling a concrete roller screed across the tracks, which creates a nice, smooth finish.

Traffic Alerts

  • For rail deliveries, Race Street will be closed between 13th and 14th streets on Tuesday, March 11th from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Detours will be posted, and traffic will be maintained to the Washington Park garage via 13th Street.
  • As we noted earlier this week, there are weeknight closures (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.) on Walnut Street between 5th and 6th streets. This is so crews can install branches to the new water main.
  • As we continue trackwork down Race, 13th Street will be closed periodically for excavation. It will be plated and reopened as quickly as possible.
