Homegrown Theater at CRC’s Hirsch Recreation Center

Thanks to CRC’s Hirsch Center’s director of theater experience, Ann James, theater in the Avondale Community is thriving.  This summer, Ms. James held a 10-week, hands-on Teen Theater Camp. The camp concluded with a production of Maybe it’s Mayberry – an ode to the Andy Griffith show.

Youth ranging in age from 9-65 took part in the theater production which was put on free of charge. Ann led the cast in all things – from making their own props and scenery out of household items, to starring in the show.

“Ann has a wonderful way of getting to a budding actor or actress. She finds a place for everyone,” says her director Karen Williams. “Ann’s tireless work and dedication make the theater program at Hirsch the success that it is.”

The theater at Hirsh Recreation Center is Avondale’s only theater which produces live performances.
