Garbage Guidelines

Please follow these guidelines so we can better serve you:

  • Place garbage cans at the curb by 6 a.m. on your regular trash collection day -- but please, don't put out your garbage before 5 p.m. the prior evening. Garbage cans must be removed from the curb before the end of the day on which your waste was collected.

  • Garbage cans and containers should be of substantial construction, water-tight, and have tight-fitting lids. They should be able to be easily handled by one person.

  • Plastic bag liners may be used for disposing of combustible waste if they're heavy-duty and securely fastened at the opening.

  • When a holiday falls on a weekday, pickup for that day is shifted back one day. All collections for the rest of the week are delayed for one day.

  • Your household waste may include:

    • Up to 3 bulk items, such as furniture and mattresses

    • Carpet, bundled and tied in 4-foot-by-2-foot rolls.

    • Wood, bundled and tied in 4-foot-long rolls that weigh 10 pounds maximum.

    • Note: Construction and demolition debris will not be accepted.

  • Sofa beds are heavier than other furniture and require a special pick-up. Call 591-6000 to schedule.

  • Tires and heavy metal items, such as refrigerators and metal furniture, are also collected as an additional service. An appointment is required, so please call 591-6000 to schedule.

Please call 591-6000 for more information or refer to Solid Waste Management.
