Winter Operations Update: Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014
This week, crews have spent a lot of time responding to service requests from the last storm. Some of this work continues.
On Wednesday morning, crews began pretreating streets with a brine and beet juice mixture. This work continued last night and today.
Ahead of tomorrow's snowfall, crews will be pretreating streets again tonight.
At 7 a.m. Friday, crews will resume 12-hour rotating shifts. We're prepared work into the weekend if necessary.
- We're heading into this next snowfall with about 4,800 tons of salt on hand. More salt supplies have been ordered.
- Crews are pretreating streets with a brine mixture as an effective treatment that conserves resources. (It takes 40 gallons of brine -- using 2 pounds of salt per gallon -- to treat one lane mile. In comparison, it takes 400 pounds of granular salt to treat the same area.)
