Justice Department Grant Will Fund Law Enforcement Programs

The City of Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Golf Manor, Lockland Village, Mount Healthy, North College Hill, Norwood, Reading, St Bernard Sharonville, Loveland, Springdale, Forest Park, Delhi, and Springfield will share a grant of $2,992,749 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, Bureau of Justice Assistance. Cincinnati will use the grant to fund the purchase of equipment, police mountain bikes, child DNA/Fingerprint kits, data storage, software, a Computer Programmer Analyst position, and a Senior Assistant City Solicitor position. Hamilton County will use the funds for four Jail Intake Assessment positions, two Electronic Monitoring positions, a firearm analysis scientific work station, and to create a web-based system for jail population inmate inquiry. The remaining municipalities and townships will use the funds to purchase equipment, a police cruiser, and training. 

Members of the public who wish to comment on the grant and programs may do so by attending the City of Cincinnati’s Finance Committee meeting on Monday April 13, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., at City Hall, 801 Plum St., Council Chambers, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.
