50th Session of the Citizens Police Academy Begins

The Cincinnati Police Academy’s 50th Citizens Police Academy Session begins January 21 and runs through March 11.

The Cincinnati Police Department began offering a Citizens Police Academy in 1994 as a means to provide an overview of the training received and functions performed by officers. Instructors are members of the Police Department with experience in related subject areas. In addition to informing citizens of current law enforcement issues, the CPA promotes interaction beneficial to both the citizens of Cincinnati and to members of the Police Department. More than 1500 people have completed Cincinnati’s CPA program.

The CPA meets once each week on Wednesday evenings for 8 weeks, and exposes citizens to a number of current law enforcement issues. Topics covered include an Organizational Overview, Internal Investigations, Cincinnati SWAT Team, Terrorism Early Warning Group, Laws of Arrest, Criminal Investigation Process, Mental Health Response Team, Gangs, Domestic Violence, Drug Awareness, Traffic Contacts, Use of Force, and Personal Safety. Participants will also have a chance to experience the role of a police officer through the Firearms Simulator. Participants are also offered the opportunity to do a police ride-a-long and/or spend some time in the Police Communications Center as a part of the program.

The Cincinnati Police Academy is still accepting applications for the program. If interested, please contact Ms. Monica Ervin at 357-7554
