New Police Public Information Office Commander

Lieutenant Mark Briede began working as Public Information Office Commander for the Cincinnati Police Department October 28.  He will handle media relations and serve as spokesperson for the department.  He is a graduate of Elder High School, and he earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Cincinnati, where he majored in broadcasting.  Lieutenant Briede was appointed to the Police Academy’s 69th Recruit Class in July 1987.  His first assignment upon graduation was on patrol in District One.  He later worked in Districts Three and Four, and in the Vice Section’s Street Corner Unit.  In 1995 he was promoted to the rank of sergeant.  At this rank, he worked as a supervisor in District Three and in the Training Section.  Since his promotion to lieutenant in 1998, he has served in Districts One and Three, in Planning Section, in the Internal Investigations Section, and in the Information Technology Management Unit.  He has served as the department’s crisis negotiation coordinator for the past two years.  Lieutenant Briede is a graduate of the 116th Administrative Officers Class of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville, where he was class valedictorian.
