Halloween 2007 In Cincinnati

The City of Cincinnati has designated the hours between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Wednesday October 31 for Halloween trick or treating.

Police Chief Thomas H. Streicher, Jr. and the employees of the Police Department invite all little trick-or-treaters to visit their local police district station* during those hours for the annual “Meet-n-Treat” program.  Once again this year, the Associate Police Captains have provided candies for trick-or-treaters at this community event.

The following Halloween “Do’s and Don’ts” will help to keep trick or treating safe and fun for everyone:

Do use makeup instead of a mask so that you can see better.

Do wear light colored clothing or reflective tape so that you can be seen better.

Do wear shoes that fit (even if they don’t go with your costume) and make sure your costume isn’t so long that it drags on the ground or trips you.

Do have an adult accompany you for trick or treating.

Do cross streets only at corners, never from between parked cars.  Obey traffic signals.

Do carry a flashlight so you can see and be seen easily.

Do trick or treat in groups rather than alone.  Someone in the group should carry a mobile phone to use in case of emergency.

Do plan your route and make sure an adult knows where you are going.

Do have an adult check your candy before you eat any of it.

Do stay on sidewalks.  Don’t cut across yards or driveways.

Don’t go to homes where the front lights are not turned on.

Don’t go inside anyone’s house.

Don’t eat candy if the wrapper is partially open or is taped.

Motorists are reminded to be especially alert and to watch for children trick or treating on the streets.  Sunset and darkness arrive earlier on these crisp autumn evenings, and that may impair visibility in areas without many street lights.  Children may be distracted by the excitement of collecting candy, and they may be hindered by their costumes.  Drivers should watch for children darting into the street from between parked vehicles.  Drivers should be especially careful as they enter or exit driveways and alleyways.
