Harrison Avenue Improvement Project

Boudinot Avenue

Issue: There are no dedicated left turn lanes on Harrison Avenue to turn onto Boudinot Avenue. From 2005 through 2007 there have been 5 accidents involving vehicles making left turns from Harrison Avenue to Boudinot Avenue. There have also been a number of rear-end and sideswipe accidents that may be attributed to vehicles stopped in the through lanes waiting to turn left. Outbound Harrison Avenue becomes one lane at the City Corporation line. .

Add left turn lanes. This would be changed with signage and pavement markings within the existing curb lines. Inbound Harrison Avenue approaching Boudinot Avenue would become three lanes with a dedicated left turn lane and two through lanes. Outbound Harrison Avenue would remain two lanes but one would be a dedicated left turn lane and one lane for all the through/right turning traffic. This would put the left turning vehicles directly across from each other. This would allow for a dedicated left turn phase if needed. It also allows the left turning vehicles better sight of opposing through traffic. This would make outbound Harrison Avenue one through lane from Boudinot to the corporation line. This will require the removal of parking spots on the north side of Harrison Avenue, west of the Boudinot Avenue intersection.
