Mayor Cranley, City offers condolences to family of Tyrell Wyche
Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley offers his sympathy to the family and friends of Tyrell Wyche as they undergo a difficult time.
Tyrell, age 10, was pulled unconscious from the swimming pool at the Bush Recreation Center in Walnut Hills on Wednesday. He is hospitalized at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
"This is a truly horrible and tragic experience," Mayor Cranley said. "As the father of a boy about Tyrell’s age, I can only imagine the anguish and sorrow his parents and the rest of his family are feeling."
"I want the Wyche family to know that they and Tyrell are in my prayers," Mayor Cranley added. "My sincerest wish is they find the strength needed to cope with all that has happened."
The incident involving Tyrell happened about 7 p.m. Wednesday. Recreation Department lifeguards pulled the boy from the pool and immediately administered CPR per procedure, while an emergency 911 call was simultaneously made by pool staff.
At this time, the Recreation Department is conducting a post-accident investigation and a report will be issued within the next few days.
Christopher A. Bigham, Recreation Department director, said the incident has had a profound impact on staff within the department.
"I am deeply saddened by Tyrell’s accident and we extend our condolences to his family," Bigham said. "His family continues to be in all of our thoughts and prayers. We are truly heartbroken."
