The Reds Rookie Success League (RRSL) is a joint venture between the Reds Community Fund, Cincinnati Recreation Commission and TriHealth.
The RRSL is a non-competitive, coed, character building summer baseball league targeting at-risk 8-11 year olds. The six-week program stresses valuable life lessons while utilizing the game of baseball as the delivery vehicle. Teams meet twice weekly, either Tuesdays/Thursdays or Wednesdays/Fridays for 3 hours of practices and games.

The program debuted in July 2003 and adheres to the mission of the Reds Community Fund, providing inner-city children with an opportunity to play baseball in a safe and fun environment.
During every practice and game, the staff of trained coaches and volunteers emphasizes the “CI REDS” acronym: Cooperation, Integrity, Respect, Education, Determination and Spirit. Character-building exercises, coupled with baseball drills, reinforce the character trait of the week.
Reds legend and MVP George Foster serves as the RSSL Commissioner. Throughout the summer, Reds players, coaches, broadcasters and staff will visit and assist the approximately 100 volunteer coaches with life and baseball lessons.
In 2004, more than 350 children will have the opportunity to participate in this exciting, interactive outdoor activity located at Schmidt Fields in Cincinnati. In addition to a structured weekly program, each participant also receives a free, initial health screening, as well as complimentary bus transportation from participating Cincinnati Recreation Centers. Medical staff from TriHealth are present each day to monitor health and safety.
Each child also receives a team shirt, food, beverages and all necessary equipment. A celebration takes place at Great American Ball Park, with all kids and volunteers receiving tickets to a Reds game as well as scoreboard recognition.
As of 2006, the Reds Rookie Success League has continued to expand and improve. Over 600 youth registered in 2006. In 2007, the RRSL Program is adding dental screenings and follow up of medical and vision care.
A Monday Competitive Division is offered for 9-13 year old players. Try-outs are required. For more information about the George Foster hosted competitive aspect of the program call Vikki Rieger at 513-886-5300.
