The sprawling acres of the Dunham Recreation Complex in West Price Hill may soon look different as the Dunham Golf Course is now being slated for a makeover. The Cincinnati Recreation Commission (CRC) will likely be closing the golf operations at Dunham and is entertaining ideas for the use of the 14 acres of green space.
An Ohio Tax Commission ruling determined that the City must now pay property taxes on its golf courses. This means CRC will incur approximately $70,000 in property taxes annually for Dunham. “The Dunham Golf Course is already operating under a deficit,” says CRC Director Chris Bigham. “It’s just not possible to cover this additional expense.”
What should we do?
CRC representatives have begun talks with neighborhood leaders to figure out how to best utilize the property. Should it be a Frisbee golf course or an outdoor ropes course? How about a fitness trail or urban garden? Maybe an outdoor archery course?
Those with an opinion on the use of the acreage can take a poll on CRC’s Facebook page or email a suggestion to info.crc@cincinnati-oh.gov. For now, visitors are welcome to enjoy the green space and walk or jog through the former greens and fairways.
Dunham Recreation Complex is perhaps the Cincinnati Recreation Commission’s most extensive regional facility. Located off Guerley Road in West Price Hill, the complex features ball fields, playgrounds, the largest CRC aquatic center, sand volleyball courts, a recreation center, and an extensive nature/walking trail.
