Winter Operations: Dec. 26, 2012 (Morning)

The National Weather Service is forecasting:

  • Today: Snow...rain...freezing rain with a chance of sleet this morning...then snow this afternoon. Total snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches. Ice accumulation of up to a tenth of an inch. Brisk. Near steady temperatures in the lower 30s. Northeast winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Chance of precipitation 100 percent.

Operational Status:

Crews are monitoring road conditions and weather forecasts throughout the day as a rain/sleet mix continues to fall and temperatures hover around freezing.

Last night, crews treated roadways with salt in preparation for dropping daytime temperatures. These efforts will continue today.

Bridges and overpasses are of special concern. These surfaces are the first to freeze when temperatures drop.

What Citizens Should Expect:

Citizens will need to share the road with large salt trucks today. Please give operators the extra distance they need to perform their job safely!

Anticipate changing driving conditions. Multiple forms of precipitation and dropping temperatures make for challenging driving.
